Amazon Expanding To Africa in 2023
Is the E-Commerce giant about to cause disruption for local players.
According to a report by Business Insider, Amazon is preparing plans to launch in Africa in 2023. The company is also planning to expand to some South American countries as well.
The e-commerce giant is planning to expand to both South Africa and Nigeria in February 2023 and April 2023 respectively.
The company is expecting to launch its popular "Amazon Prime" feature to customers soon after it launches.
Amazon launching in Africa could be a huge deal for local e-commerce players. On one hand, the company could seek specific partnerships to help its launch be smoother or it could make local purchases (acquisitions) to help streamline its services.
Looking at how popular Amazon Prime is in the US, a replication and success of that service could cause major disruption to local players. But we'll have to see how well-received Amazon is when they eventually launch. We'll keep an eye on this one.
