Bolt Vs Uber in Ghana
The ride-sharing competition seems to have come down to two major names: Uber and Bolt
Bolt, the company formally known as Taxify, officially launched in Ghana in 2017. Uber had taken the first start by launching a year earlier in 2016.
Both companies had seen competition from local startups including the likes of Yango, Enshika, Uru, and Dropyn. But the average user is more likely to use either Bolt and Uber.
Although there are no official numbers, it could be speculated that Uber has the most numbers when it comes to riders but Bolt is making its own mark and carving out its own following.
Both Bolt and Uber operate in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Cape Coast.
Uber was able to get a leg up on Bolt when they launched their “Uber Connect” feature which allows users to send packages using the Uber app.
But Bolt surprisingly launched their “Bolt Foods” feature which allows users to order food from their local restaurants and eateries using the Bolt Food app.
Uber already has their Uber Eats app but it’s currently not available in Ghana at the moment. So it was surprising to see Bolt launch their food delivery service first.
It will probably be a matter of time before Bolt eventually launches a similar “Uber Connect” feature on their app.
So what is next for both these big-name ride-sharing brands? Mostly likely expansion to other cities in Ghana. But will there be room for other ride-sharing competitors? Only time will tell. But at the moment, it’s currently Bolt and Uber competing for the riders in Ghana
