Stop us if you’ve heard this before: “Ghana Government to make road tolls electronic”
Doing a complete 180, Ghana’s Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako-Atta has announced that government intends to remove all human interactions from the collections of road tolls and make the collection of tolls electronic.
Effectively, the Minister is saying that road tolls will be back in the coming year.
This is a complete about face when last year, Ghana’s Finance Minister abolished all road tolls.
Ghana has been pushing the implementation of electronic road tolls since the late 2000s but with nothing to show.
The question: Will they actually implement it this time and what kind of electronic payment will be used. Mobile Money? RFD cards? Bank Cards?
We’ll just have to wait and see.

Julian was an experienced football player at 16 years old and played in leagues in the UK, Ghana, and Amsterdam. He decided to not fully pursue a career in football and instead went into business and became a Product Manager after spending time at various digital agencies in London. He also took lead on the development of various products for new startups in the U.K.
Before long, he was back in Ghana co-founding Zuberi to help solve the problem of employees getting early access to their salaries.
