Issue #8 - Battle Of The Food Delivery Apps
Last year, Ghana went through a lockdown in which movement was limited and businesses included restaurants and eateries had to adjust to keep running. One of those adjustments was switching to food deliveries and take outs.
With that shift, many customers opted for food delivery apps to order their meals online.
Last month, a new delivery app called Glovo entered the food delivery market in Accra.
With their launch, Glovo adds to the list of food delivery apps in Ghana including Bolt Food, Jumia Food and ShopNaw.
Now, it’s not uncommon to see motorbike riders with Glovo or Bolt Food pouches on their backs as they make deliveries throughout Accra.
Glovo has an advantage of adding other delivery services including groceries, drinks and package deliveries.
Competition Helps With Prices, Right?
Food delivery fees tend to be on the high side in Accra. Sometimes delivery fees can be upwards of 10 GHC and above. With all these food delivery apps, there tends to lot so promos. Glovo which recently launched, is currently absorbing most of the delivery fees for new users.
The question is if the arrival of new food delivery apps will lead to a reduction of delivery fees in the long term.
More Competition Ahead
Don’t surprised that more delivery apps will be on scene this year. Uber which has its own food delivery service called Uber Eats is not available yet but its only a matter on time.
