Will Ghana's SIM Re-registration Deadline Be Extended Again?
Last year, the Ghanaian government announced the re-registration of SIM cards in Ghana. The Ministry of Communication stated that the Ghana Card, Ghana’s National ID card, would be the only identification to be used for the registration of SIM cards in the country and the registration exercise would end on March 31st, 2022.
However, that initial deadline was pushed back because of certain challenges and the new date was set for July 31st, 2022.
But there has been pushback from the public about the upcoming deadline. Most people haven’t yet had their Ghana Cards distributed to them by the National Identification Authority and so they can’t register their SIM cards.
There are some rumors that the Ministry might extend the deadline further even though the Minister in charge stated that she wouldn’t extend it further.
